Abstract
Las consecuencias humanas y sociales derivadas del desmonte acelerado y la disminución cuantitativa y cualitativa de recursos naturales necesarios para la vida humana, no eran del todo desconocidas. La disminución en el caudal de los ríos a consecuencia de la deforestación, el impacto de los procesos erosivos en la agricultura y el efecto de las quemas en la pérdida de nutrientes de los suelos eran en gran medida conocidos en el siglo XIX y aún mucho antes.
