Abstract
Este texto compõe-se de dois eixos principais: a crônica como gênero literário e seu papel no contexto da literatura brasileira, e a crônica de Rubem Braga, autor que se consagrou no quadro dessa literatura exclusivamente pela produção de obras do gênero. Na primeira parte estudam-se as origens e desenvolvimento da crônica, suas relações com a História e o Jornalismo, e o seu papel na literatura brasileira, contestando-se um tipo de crítica mais tradicional que via o gênero como “arte menor”; e na segunda parte, a produção de Rubem Braga, marcada por forte dose de lirismo, por uma linguagem bastante coloquial e descontraída e pela recorrência de temas extraídos do cotidiano da vida brasileira.
