Abstract
The War of the Austrian Succession (1740–1748) met with an extraordinary response in the period
chronicle entries and in song lyrics. With a few exceptions these songs express resistance to the enemies
of Maria Theresa, save for the song Prague has a King of Bavaria, promising peasants that their
‘compulsory labour would come to an end’. The author tries to outline the circumstances of the birth
of the song, its dating, and other circumstances.
