Abstract
Los estudios originarios sobre el miedo al delito marcaron con sus presupuestos metodológicos la forma en la que se entendería el trabajo posterior en la materia. En este texto se presentan desde las elaboraciones imprecisas, que acompañaron a las investigaciones en su nacimiento, hasta las conceptualizaciones posteriores más influyentes. Por último, se señala un límite que la técnica de la medición involucra cuando los criterios de identificación del fenómeno de estudio no son independientes del instrumento de medición: distintos resultados en las investigaciones no pueden ser considerados distintas mediciones del mismo fenómeno.
