Abstract
The purpose of this work is to question and refute what some genre theoreticians recognize as specific foundations of personal diaries (in particular the so called "therapeutic functions") through the reading of a singular diary experience, John Cheeverïs. Throughout its development, some topics of autobiographical literature criticism are revised, such as the difference between "sincerity" and "authenticity" and between the strategies of intimate subjective self figuration and experience.
