O conflito conhecido como Guerra do Contestado envolveu interesses econômicos,políticos e religiosos. Esse artigo trata da articulação religiosa na Guerra do Contestado, expressa pelos espaços de representação do sagrado e pela formação do ícone São João Maria – todos os monges eram um só: dois João e um José todos Maria, assim define o folclorista do contestado.
