Abstract
O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar as linhas fundamentais da filosofia política e jurídica de Francisco de Vitoria. Para tanto, dividimos a matéria da seguinte forma: i) a filosofia política do século XVI e o problema da conquista da América; e ii) as teses de Vitoria frente à conquista e suas contribuições para o Direito Internacional. Para tal estudo, utilizamos as relectiones jurídicas proferidas na Universidade de Salamanca, sobretudo a relectio De indis recenter inventis relectio prior (1538/39).
