Abstract
Este artigo discute a importância da nacionalidade da empresa com base na literatura de relações internacionais. Os resultados empíricos aqui apresentados contribuem para a literatura de economia política internacional porque revelam a importância da variável nacionalidade para explicar o comportamento frente a questões ambientais de empresas transnacionais em países em desenvolvimento. A ampla investigação de subsidiárias brasileiras de empresas transnacionais de diferentes origens nacionais resultou em descobertas que confirmam a influência relevante, em termos da definição de padrões legais e do estilo de gerenciamento, do contexto de origem nas políticas e práticas ambientais corporativas.
