Abstract

La familia Coronel llevó a cabo una intensa política de adquisición de tierras en los alrededores de la ciudad de Segovia desde la segunda mitad del siglo XV. Linaje fundado por Abraham Seneor/Fernán Pérez Coronel, juez mayor de las aljamas de Castilla, sus herederos continuaron con la compra y concentración de tierras impulsada por éste. Las cuantiosas propiedades rurales que administraron sus miembros y el desarrollo económico que proporcionaron a la familia Coronel sirvieron de plataforma para que la familia se insertase en la oligarquía municipal de Segovia y en la élite castellana cristianovieja de su tiempo mediante el entronque con el líder comunero Juan Bravo.

The Coronels, a converso family, carried out an ambitious policy of purchasing land on the outskirts of the city of Segovia as of the second half of the fifteenth century. This lineage was founded by Abraham Seneor/Fernán Pérez Coronel, the leading rabbi of the Castilian Jewry. His heirs pursued the same course of action by acquiring and amassing properties. The abundant lands administered by members of the Coronel family and the copious profits derived from them, became a stepping stone to join the ranks of Segovia’s urban oligarchy as well as the Old Christian social elite through the marriage of a member of this family to the famous comunero leader, Juan Bravo.
