Abstract
José de Lacroix, the Baron de la Bruère, is one of the most striking and remarkable figures in late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century journalism. The purpose of this article is to offer a biographical and productive overview in chronological order. It explores his professional career and historical, structural and thematic aspects of his newspapers, which together comprise an outstanding body of work ranging from 1790 to 1814: the early Diario de Valencia (1790-1791); the first daily newspaper of Seville and Andalusia, the Diario Histórico y Político de Sevilla (1792-1793); and relevant Cadiz papers: Correo de Cádiz (1795-1800) and Diario Mercantil de Cádiz (1802-1814).
