Documentários da TV Discovery-Home & Health e do site Terra apresentam uma série de reportagens sobre acumuladores compulsivos: pessoas cujo apego excessivo pelos objetos sentem-se impedidas de jogá-los no lixo, doá-los ou dar-lhes outro destino. Trata-se de uma patologia psiquica onde o ego é dominado pelo consumismo de coisas, sem limites e sem consciência de estar fazendo do ambiente um lugar intransitável, sujo, feio, insalubre.
