Abstract
<!-- @page { margin: 2cm } --> <p class="western" align="justify">Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito da temperatura e substrato na viabilidade de sementes de acerola em condições de laboratório (primeiro experimento), e testar diferentes substratos e colorações de frutos sobre a emergência de plântulas de acerola em sementeira (segundo experimento). Os experimentos foram conduzidos no laboratório de análise de sementes da Univesidade Federal da Paraíba / Centro de Ciências Agrárias (UFPB/CCA), em Areia/PB, no ano de 1994. No primeiro experimento, foram utilizados frutos de coloração avermelhada, cujos endocarpos foram colocados sob embebição em água à temperatura ambiente por 48 horas e, após esse período, foram postos para germinar em gerbox, em germinador, entre os substratos: papel germitest, areia e vermiculita nas temperaturas de 25ºC e 30ºC. As características avaliadas foram porcentagem e índice de velocidade de germinação. Os delineamentos experimentais foram um fatorial 3 x 2 (primeiro experimento) e um fatorial 4 x 2 (segundo experimento), ambos inteiramente casualizados. No segundo experimento, utilizaram-se frutos de coloração avermelhada e verde-amarelada adotando-se o mesmo procedimento anterior. Utilizaram-se os seguintes substratos: vermiculita, areia, areia + esterco bovino (3:1) e terriço + esterco bovino (3:1). As características avaliadas foram porcentagem e índice de velocidade de emergência. O papel germitest à temperatura de 25°C e 30ºC, sob condições de laboratório e a areia com ou sem esterco, sob condições de sementeira, ambos utilizando-se sementes oriundas de frutos de coloração avermelhada, originaram plântulas de acerola mais vigorosas.</p> <p class="western" align="justify">PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Fruto; germinação; vigor.</p>

The experiments were carried out at the seed analysis laboratory of seed analysis at Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB/CCA), in Areia, Paraíba, Brazil, in 1994. In the first trial, fruits of reddish coloration were used, and their endocarps were soaked in water, at room temperature, for 48 hours. After this period, they were placed to germinate in gerbox in the germinator, using the following substrates: germitest paper, sand, and vermiculite, at temperatures between 25C and 30C. The evaluated characteristics were germination percentage and germination speed index. The experimental designs were a factorial 3 x 2 (first experiment) and a factorial 4 x 2 (second experiment), both completely randomized. In the second experiment, fruits of reddish coloration as well as fruits of greenyellowish coloration were used, and the same previous procedure was adopted. The following substrates were used: vermiculite, sand, sand + cow manure (3:1), and forest litter + cow manure (3:1). The characteristics evaluated were emergence percentage and emergence speed index. The use of germitest towel-paper at temperatures between 25C and 30C, under laboratory conditions, and use of sand with or without cow manure in seed beds, both making use of seeds from reddish colored fruits in seed beds, originated more vigorous acerola seedlings.</p> <p class="western" align="JUSTIFY">KEY-WORDS: Fruit; germination; vigor.</p>
