Abstract
Conferencia leída en la cátedra de Fisiología de la Facultad de Medicina, a cargo del doctor Aguilera Camacho, el día 27 de septiembre de 1935. Evolución de la materia hasta el hombre. En el estudio de la evolución de la materia hasta el hombre y los animales en general, y de la influencia que tiene la herencia sobre esa misma evolución, y el medio en que ésta se efectúa, se abarca un campo demasiado vasto que, a grandes rasgos me esforzaré por bosquejar en estas líneas. Partimos siempre de la formación de la materia viviente, merced a fuerzas físico-químicas estimuladas por una causa aún inexplicada a satisfacción general. Veremos su desarrollo, su progreso, su adquisición de órganos más adecuados para la subsistencia, dentro de su propia posibilidad, la diferenciación de sus fuciones y de sus órganos respectivos, y, finalmente, la culminación de esa escala evolutiva en la materia más perfeccionada o sea en el hombre. Las dos principales teorías que tratan de explicar esta evolución, son: la teoría filosófica de Spencer y la biológica de Darwin.
