Abstract
Este artigo pretende apresentar o trabalho de Diane Arbus, importante fotógrafa norte-americana de origem judaica que produziu sua obra nos anos 1960 e 1970. Influenciada pelo trabalho de Lisette Model, também de origem judaica, Arbus se tornou uma das primeiras fotógrafas interessadas em nos lembrar de que o estranho/grotesco está próximo de nós e faz parte da nossa realidade. O trabalho que consagrou Arbus, e que será aqui analisado, se caracteriza pelo registro e exibição daquilo que são consideradas “as partes debaixo” da sociedade, as partes as quais a moral e os bons costumes determinaram como interditadas e que devem permanecer escondidas porque comprometeriam a ilusão de uma sociedade igual, lisa e perfeita, sobretudo, ordenada.
