Abstract
A Igreja Católica vem aprimorando a sua análise do ambiente capitalista moderno de maneira progressiva. Este artigo procura analisar tal hipótese a partir da leitura do texto que comemorou 100 anos da Rerum Novarum, a encíclica Centesimus Annus, assinada pelo Papa João Paulo II. Neste documento é possível identificar a evolução do pensamento social católico em relação a vários conceitos econômicos a partir da análise de conceitos como lucro, salário, propriedade privada e, principalmente, da defesa católica dos valores morais como fatores de produção. A discussão dessas questões permite identificar um deslocamento progressivo dos documentos pontifícios em direção a aprovação do podemos chamar de economia de mercado.
