Abstract
A obra de Machado de Assis dá mostras de um grande diálogo paródico com elementos hauridos na tradição do pensamento e da ficçãoocidentais, sobretudo francesas. No romance Quincas Borba, o narrador faz uso de certa concepção filosófica fina lista, assim como da divulgação de conhecimentos científicos, algo tão caro às Luzes, para criar uma rede particular de significações, sempre no interesse de dar a conhecero desastre humano presente na "saga" urbana de Rubião.
