Abstract
In addition to environmental performance, supply chain management is increasingly important in business context. Thus, companies started to give more importance to the management of by-products and the proper disposal of waste generated. In this sense, the objective of the study was to analyze the waste management in a maintenance workshop for heavy vehicles. Therefore, was conducted a case study in a maintenance workshop for heavy vehicles in the state of São Paulo that provides services for the main plants of this sector in the region. Data were collected over a period of 18 months and they were treated by the method of Input Per Service Material unit (MIPS), which allows measuring the environmental gains from the use of a certain material within the supply chain. As a result of the steel sale would be discarded and that, by the reverse logistics back to be included in the production cycle, it was found that 2000 tonnes of water and 20 tons of air are no longer polluted and used in the production of new material and more 245 tons of abiotic materials are no longer generated
