Abstract
En realidad hablar sobre la diabetes mellitus y su tratamiento representa un gran esfuerzo para quien hace la síntesis y para quienes tratan de entenderla, por lo árido y vasto del tema y porque él mismo está basado sobre principios biológicos y químicos experimentales. Presento un esquema del "síndrome diabético", exponiendo los descubrimientos hechos por los fisiólogos en los últimos tiempos y la bibliografía más reciente sobre la patología del metabolismo glúcido. Primero, sintetizo la fisiología del metabolismo hidrocarbonado, luego, doy algunos detalles de su fisiopatología y, por último, hago un esbozo clínico terapéutico.
