Abstract
Neste ensaio, concedo espaço à escrita autobiográfica do literato e químico italiano Primo Levi, seguindo seu testemunho em uma reconstituição cronológica que ele próprio sugere: a trajetória intelectual na juventude, as leis raciais do governo de Mussolini, a rápida participação na resistência italiana, o fenômeno da deportação, alguns aspectos de sua degradante viagem até Auschwitz e o período inicial da experiência de Häftling. Gostaria de adjudicar inteligibilidade a esse repertório temático, lendo-o como texto vivo, como “documento da barbárie”, e tendo como suporte algumas questões: de que forma Levi constrói um testemunho histórico e literário coerente sobre uma violência inaudita se a esse discurso contrapõe-se seu inverso inevitável, o trauma? Como apelar à reflexão e à seriedade éticas quando os problemas de uma experiência traumática invadem a narração?
