Abstract
Este texto corresponde a la primera de las tres conferencias dictadas en el ciclo "Paisaje y arquitectura moderna", organizado por el Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Baleares en septiembre y octubre de 1991. la intención de las mismas era trazar en sus rasgos mas sobresalientes el panorama de la relación establecida entre el paisaje y el jardín -la inicial- trasladada luego a la arquitectura y a la ciudad -las dos ultimas-, desde los orígenes de la arquitectura moderna hasta el surgimiento del Movimiento Moderno. El texto ha sido revisado y puesto al día, procurando no perder el tono coloquial que la situación demandaba. Se han agregado las notas y referencias bibliográficas más indispensables, y se han restringido, por razones obvias, las ilustraciones a las que parecen menos prescindibles. Las dos conferencias siguientes aparecerán en la próxima edición de Cuaderno de Notas.
