Abstract
Al discutir sobre el Holocausto usualmente se utilizan t rminos tales como f bricas de la muerte , asesinos de escritorio y e ciencia burocr tica que transmiten una impresi n equivocada de lo que realmente ocurri . En este art culo se argumenta que lejos de ser un proceso impersonal y puramente sistem tico, el Holocausto fue a menudo una tarea ca tica. Acaso los horrores que perpetr fueron en alg n sentido modernos ? El Holocausto fue una expresi n o derivaci n de los poderes terribles impl citos en la modernidad? Nuevos hallazgos emp ricos est n alejando nuestra atenci n de aquello que hizo que el Tercer Reich fuera emblem tico de los esquemas te ricos generalizantes de la sociedad moderna y nos revelan aquello por lo cual ese r gimen fue profundamente aberrante y at vico. Si bien este vaiv n del p ndulo interpretativo dif cilmente podr a tomarse como la ltima palabra, merece un an lisis cuidadoso que ponga en evidencia que el primitivismo del proyecto nazi supera por mucho sus atributos modernos.
