Abstract
ABSTRACT The paper discusses the role of the image linked to the placement of goods, to the creation of consumer needs and to the power to produce the viewer’s fascination in the contemporary society. The paper displays the current scenario of the consumer society, pointing to the current trend of relationships virtualization, which produces a life that values the appearance more than the content. Are also discussed possible ways of relating to the image, either through passive consumption or through questioning, allowing its true unveiling. Finally, it is argued that it is possible to escape the imperative nature of consumption dictated by the appearance as goods when, facing an image, reflection is produced instead of fascination. Keywords: visuality, consumption, contemporary, human relations, subjectivity.
