Abstract
Este trabajo presenta un análisis sobre recientes investigaciones relacionadas con los partidos políticos a escala local. Señala la importancia jurídica de los partidos en el marco constitucional, su papel como medios de participación ciudadana, y la influencia del diseño institucional de los sistemas de elección en los resultados que obtienen. Realiza un especial enfoque en los partidos regionales y cantonales. Apunta aspectos a corregir en la legislación para estimular la participación política local, y aporta una serie de recomendaciones sobre posibles reformas.
