Abstract
This article purports to analyse the migration phenomenon from an imagological perspective, focusing on the way Romanian immigrants are portrayed in the international press. Although stereotypes are as old as time, they can be harmful in this contemporary age, when spaces and borders have been largely abolished, with negative impact not only on the Romanians living abroad, but also on the ones left in the country, who are unfairly associated with delinquents. The extent of this discrimination wave promoted by both the international and national mass media is alarming and it is important to make a clear distinction between those Romanian intellectuals working abroad and the illegal immigrants of Romanian origin committing crimes abroad.
