Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study and analyse the two main long poems in the poetic work of Antonio Colinas: “Sepulcro en Tarquinia” and “La tumba negra”. These two poems mark his work, since each one of them belongs to different periods and each one defines different conceptions of poetry. Formal differences, tone, theme, different strategies to make the poem advance rhythmically, will be explored. The type of long poem also hides an aspiration of being an essential poem. Through these two essential poems it is possible to observe the evolution of his poetic thought and work.
