Abstract
En este trabajo se estudia la figura de Luis Garcés de Maluenda, un eclesiástico burgalés de ascendientes judeoconversos (emparentado con la familia Santa María) que vivió en la segunda mitad del siglo XV, y que llegó a ser canónigo y tesorero de la catedral. A pesar de morir joven, con 37 años, desarrolló una relevante carrera eclesiástica, fue uno de los más importantes gestores económicos del cabildo catedralicio burgalés, intervino en asuntos jurisdiccionales y de tipo beneficial y, en nombre del cabildo, negoció con Mencía de Mendoza, condesa de Haro, todo lo referente a la construcción de la capilla del Condestable en la catedral. Finalmente hay que destacar su posesión de un ejemplar de la célebre Biblia de 42 líneas, impresa por Gutenberg.
This article studies the figure of Luis Garcés de Maluenda, a Burgos clergyman who lived in the second half of the fifteenth century, with Jewish-convert roots (he was related to the Santa María family) and who managed to become canon and treasurer of the cathedral. Although he died young, at 37, he had an outstanding ecclesiastical career and became one of the most important economic administrators of the cathedral chapter of Burgos. He also took part in matters of jurisdiction and benefices and, in representation of the chapter, negotiated the construction of the Constable’s Chapel in Burgos cathedral with Mencía de Mendoza, countess of Haro. Finally, it is worthy to note that he owned an original copy of the 42-line Bible printed by Gutenberg.
