Abstract
Nos anos de 1930 e 1940 o magistério de ensino secundário foi alvo de políticas de profissionalização. Apresentamos este processo no âmbito da seleção do magistério do Colégio Pedro II. Por meio do acervo histórico da instituição e do cruzamento com outras fontes, nossa metodologia procurou identificar como ocorriam os concursos e contratações. No confronto com o referencial teórico, analisamos as resistências e negociações daqueles professores que, coletivamente organizados, buscavam influir no ensino secundário e defendiam a autonomia do Colégio Pedro II, frente à ampliação da intervenção do governo de Getúlio Vargas no recrutamento do magistério.
