Abstract
O presente artigo tem como intuito apresentar a diversidade da cultura islâmica através de sua organização temporal e, em seguida, abordar a discussão acadêmica polarizada entre a visão do Orientalismo de Edward Said e o chamado “Choque de Civilizações” de Samuel P. Huntington. Ao longo do artigo, observaremos como as tipologias de um suposto “mundo árabe” ou “Civilização Islâmica” são construídas em consonância com as necessidades políticas do ocidente.
