Abstract
L’univers de Paul Verlaine n’est pas vaste, mais il est assez contradictoire. L’originalité de la poésie verlainienne consiste en la manière dont les tons contrastés de gaieté, de mélancolie, d’innocence et de sensualisme se combinent. Les états d’âme -plaisirs, joie, remords, mélancolie- se mêlent aux paysages naturels - clairs de lune, soleils couchants- et donnent naissance aux « tableaux d’âme » si caractéristiques du symbolisme.
