Abstract
A construção de sentido através da compreensão é o principal objetivo da leitura e diversos são os fatores que interferem nesse processo. Esse artigo se propõe a estabelecer relações entre a leitura e compreensão, apresentando os principais fatores envolvidos na compreensão leitora de um gênero específico, a notícia de jornal. As notícias jornalísticas, por sua finalidade social, possuem características próprias de organização que interferem na compreensão pelo leitor. Apontamos a importância deste estudo como recurso para possibilitar ao professor, no trabalho envolvendo a leitura de jornal em sala de aula, uma reflexão mais aprofundada sobre formas de facilitar a compreensão leitora do gênero notícia e reconhecer as causas das dificuldades surgidas durante esse processo.
