Abstract
O artigo tem como objetivo analisar a forma como é configurada a vida pessoal e profissional de trabalhadores da construção civil. O trabalho resulta de uma pesquisa que foi realizada tendo como metodologia a realização de entrevistas semi-estrturadas  com operários e empresários do referido setor, na cidade de Mossoró-RN. Dentre os resultados obtidos, entre os trabalhadores, podem ser realçados os seguintes: 1) sofrimento profissional; 2) não-identificação com o trabalho realizado; 3) incidência de alcoolismo.  Conclusivamente, é assinalado que a desrealização subjetiva, bloqueando a sociabilidade autônoma dos operários e promovendo a sua exclusão do bem-estar social, é uma decorrência do modo de desenvolvimento hegemônico.
