Abstract
This paper intends to show a concept of literature according to Maurice Blanchot’s work The Space of Literature which is his main theoretical work. Literature exists only in the essential solitude which is different from the existential solitude in the world. The paper follows this difference and inquires the specific aspects of them by phenomenological method. It also underlines the difference between the work and the book. According to Blanchot the work is in fact a true space of literature, while the book is only the absence of work because work exists only by reading and by writing. The book is as if a portal to the literature. Blanchot is in this point inspired by Heidegger’s notion of ontological difference which distinguishes between Being and beings. Experience of Being is an experience with literature by reading and by writing and it is connected with the essential solitude, while the book is being and it exists like other beings in the world.
