Abstract
This paper reflects upon the impact of union interventions, undertaken by the Ministry of Work, on the city’s and on the countryside’s workers’ movement during the first years of the Brazilian civilian-military dictatorship, from 1964 to 1965. Through the appointment of intervenors or governing boards, the authoritarian State has made himself present within the unionist structure, imposing the search for alternative actions on the oppositions and drifting its chiefs to clandestineness, exile or jail. In this sense, it interests us to discuss the consequences these interventions brought to workers’ movement organization and lives, as well as the State agency against the working class, the first aim of the 1964’s putsch and the ensuing dictatorship.
