Abstract
<span style="font-size: x-small; font-family: Verdana;">Siguiendo una idea original de Koopmans, sugerimos que la eficiencia científica y el rápido desarrollo del programa neoclásico de investigación pueden explicarse por la estructura modular que han usado sus creadores y practicantes en forma espontánea. La idea fundamental es simple: la combinación de módulos básicos pertenecientes al núcleo duro del programa genera nuevos modelos que pueden servir, a su vez, para construir otros modelos. Demostramos que la secuencia de modelos de la economía teórica sigue un orden parcial que crece en complejidad y realismo a medida que se aleja de los módulos más simples que los preceden, y sin los cuales no habría podido construirse. Programas rivales de investigación no fueron competidores efectivos, entre otros factores, porque no contaron con una estructura modular.</span>
