Abstract
Over the past 10 years, the number of new cases of diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 significantly exceeded the forecasts of experts. Uncompensated DM is a constant threat. But the results of clinical studies show that compliance of target (normal) indices of glucose helps to avoid the occurrence and progression of these complications. The first step of oral hypoglycemic therapy according to current guidelines is metformin. Step therapy helps family physician to choose treatment regimen.
