Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship
between gender type in mentorship and mentees’ advancement using 153
usable questionnaires gathered from employees who worked in a public
university in East Malaysia, Malaysia. The results of exploratory factor
analysis confirmed that the measurement scales used in this study
satisfactorily meet the standards of validity and reliability analyses. Next,
the outcomes of stepwise regression analysis showed four important
findings: firstly, interaction between same-gender positively and
significantly correlated with mentees’ career. Secondly, interaction
between cross-gender positively and signifycantly correlated with
mentees’ career. Thirdly, interaction between same-gender positively and
significantly correlated with mentees’ psychosocial. Fourthly, interaction
between cross-gender positively and significantly correlated with
mentees’ psychosocial.Further, this result demonstrates that gender type
does act as an important antecedent of mentees’ career and psychosocial
in the mentoring programme model of the organizational sample. In
addition, discussion, implications and conclusion are elaborated.
