Abstract
Abstract This work focus on a set of chronicles and information articles published by poet Julio Herrera y Reissig (Montevideo, 1975-1910). The articles, which were originally published in 1905, have not been republished or discussed until now. Herrera’s critical views position him as an original observer, removed both from opposers of Modernization based on nationalism and rejection of foreign cultures, and partisans of a simple translation of European style and fashion into Latin American cities.
