Abstract
Characterisation of African Giant Snails Market in Atlantique and Littoral Regions in South-Benin. The African giant snail is an animal which's meat is very appreciated by all social categories, in countryside as well as urban surroundings, at the same title the grass-cuter and the chicken. But this meat is a lot more consumed by the rich compared to the poorest layers. The most frequent consumption shapes are: fried, smoked, buttered and short-bubbled. The national supply of African giant snails is determined by several factors of which rhythms of rains, geographical concentration of gatherers and socio-economic factors like costs of opportunity for the gatherer. The supply of African giant snails' meat is believed to be about 62.5 tons per year, at Cotonou. This supply is complemented by imports of European (Helicidae) snail meat from France.
