Abstract
Ouve-se, nos anos recentes, no Brasil, a expressão “teologia pública”. A alguns, tal termo parece pleonasmo: se a teologia como discurso sobre Deus não for pública, articulada no âmbito aberto deste mundo e dirigida a toda pessoa humana disposta ao diálogo, ela não corresponde ao que deveria ser. Vista assim, a teologia ou é pública, ou não é teologia. Contudo, é preciso levar em consideração o contexto histórico que deu origem a esse modo de falar: o contexto de uma teologia meramente eclesial, magisterial até, que não se dirigia às pessoas fora da Igreja e, muitas vezes, nem mesmo aos fiéis leigos, pelo menos não em termos de diálogo, pois eram meros destinatários de doutrinas, não parceiros de diálogo.
