Abstract
Los fundamentos de la historia de la caricatura, establecidos por Wright y Champfleury en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, animaron unos años después al novelista y crítico de arte Jacinto Octavio Picón a elaborar Apuntes para la Historia de la Caricatura, una síntesis divulgativa que constituye la primera aportación española a la historia del género. Este artículo pretende un análisis de esta obra para comprenderla como parte de un esfuerzo de esclarecimiento histórico de la eclosión del género en la prensa ilustrada y de su reconocimiento como una seña de identidad de la modernidad.
