Abstract
Let ๐‘‡ be a commutative ring, ๐ผ a prime ideal of ๐‘‡, ๐ท a subring of ๐‘‡/๐ผ, and ๐‘… the pullback ๐‘‡ร—๐‘‡/๐ผ๐ท. Ascent and descent results are given for the transfer of the ๐‘›-PIT and GPIT (generalized principal ideal theorem) properties between ๐‘‡ and ๐‘…. As a consequence, it follows that if ๐ผ is a maximal ideal of both ๐‘‡ and ๐‘…, then ๐‘… satisfies ๐‘›-PIT (resp., GPIT) if and only if ๐‘‡ satisfies ๐‘›-PIT (resp., GPIT).
