Abstract
As a setting for fiction and a material of imagination, the island opens up an exceptionally stimulating field of thought. Given its portrayal in numerous contemporary works of fiction, its presentation of analogies as well as inner and existential quests, and the way in which it updates ancient myths, the island inherently lends itself to synthetic analysis. As such, this article works towards uncovering the meaning granted to the island in contemporary works of fiction, whether in novels or in television series. It specifically targets the heuristic specificities of this island in contemporary fiction, as well as its underpinning diegetic and thematic constraints.
