Abstract
Este artículo se propone una revisión de los principios sostenidos por los más importantes retóricos de la Antigüedad grecorromana en torno a la teoría del estilo del discurso en prosa. A través de la exposición de los conceptos de los principales autores, desde Aristóteles en el libro III de la Retórica hasta el tratado Sobre las formas del estilo de Hermógenes, se intentará demostrar la permanencia de ciertos criterios relativos al estilo. Entre ellos, destacaremos la división en tres o más categorías; los elementos que las distinguen, y la progresiva asimilación de toda la literatura (incluida la poesía) en la sistematización teórica ofrecida en los tratados retóricos.
