Abstract
Este artículo analiza cómo la flexibilidad y la fluidez en las relaciones sociales de los territorios fronterizos afectaron a los proyectos de libertad de los afrobrasileños después de la abolición. Estudiando el caso de la Amazonía, analiza los patrones de movilidad geográfica y los mecanismos de acceso a la propiedad agraria. Aunque datos censales sugieren una aparente estabilidad espacial, en realidad existieron patrones de movilidad supralocal. Además, la informalidad en el acceso a la propiedad agraria facilitó la pervivencia de estrategias políticas propias entre las comunidades negras rurales de la Amazonía.
