Abstract
Las Reales Ordenanzas para las Fuerzas Armadas, promulgadas el 28 de diciembre de 1978, son un hito en la historia española no valorado suficientemente por los historiadores. Tanto en el proceso legislativo como en lo que se podría llamar "espíritu militar" las ordenanzas suponen un paso de gigante. Valores del viejo código militar, tales como el honor y la disciplina se conservan, a la vez que las nuevas leyes dan atención especial al humanismo y al funcionalismo. La actividad política de los militares fue circunscrita, los derechos y los deberes de los profesionales se clarificaron, se prohibieron los sindicatos y fue prescrito un programa de acción social.
