Der Sammelband stellt 26 Frauen aus der Zeit zwischen dem Ende des 18. und der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts vor. Es handelt sich um Schriftstellerinnen, Publizistinnen, Künstlerinnen, Sängerinnen, eine Hausangestellte und eine Ärztin. Die einzelnen Beiträge bieten neue Perspektiven und wichtige Ergebnisse nicht nur für die Frauenforschung zum 19. Jahrhundert.
