Abstract
The objective of present work was to verify the different periods of accomplishment of the cutting and air layering in 'Japonês' quince (Chaenomelis sinensis L.). Woody cutting with 25 cm of length, without leaves and diameter of 0.8 cm was collected. A part of the cutting was submitted to cold stratificated for 30 days (cuttings in humidified newspaper and protected with plastic sack in 4ºC of temperature) and other part placed directly to rooting, in nursery conditions with 50% of brightness. The collections of cutting were made in the months of April, May, June and July. Air layering was accomplished (air layering) in the same plants of quince in the same periods, taking place rings of 2 cm of width, involved with humidified esfagno, covered and tied in the extremities with transparent plastic. After 90 days, percentage of alive cutting, root, callous, sprouted and medium number of rootses for cutting; percentage of alive and healthy air layering, root, callous and medium number of rootses for air layering were evaluated. Cutting collected in June without stratificated and air layering accomplished in July promoted best results.
