Abstract
Progressive collapse of the buildings has become an important issue to be studied in recent years due to the catastrophic nature of its effects. This subject can be approached from two different perspectives: one where an ideal collapse of the structure is aimed to be achieved and corresponds to the controlled demolition of buildings and other which treats the mitigation of the potential of progressive collapse of structures. The paper presents the results of theoretical and experimental research conducted by the authors regarding the progressive collapse of RC structures from the two perspectives above mentioned.
