Abstract
Los relatos de la escritora puertorriqueña Rosario Ferré representan la contaminación social que traspasa los límites de los diferentes grupos y clases, para formar un sistema cultural complejo, lleno de prejuicios y privilegios. Mi trabajo indaga en esta complejidad a través de un análisis semiótico del cuento "El regalo," publicado por primera vez en la edición de Maldito amor de 1986. La red de relaciones sociales equívocas e inquietantes emerge de los recursos semióticos centrados en el regalo, un mangó que pasa por las manos de diferentes personas. El mangó es un signo que se repite durante el relato, deslizándose entre lo metonímico y lo metafórico en la función poética del paralelismo. El paralelismo, en el pensamiento de Roman Jakobson, es la repetición de signos equivalentes, pero nunca iguales, que hace ambigua o equívoca la función referencial de la narrativa.
