Abstract

The article Masculinities and Sociabilities: Understanding youth Involvement in Violence and Crime proposes to discuss some dynamics of social interaction in the various spheres of sociability between teenagers and youths who live in social settings which involve high exposure to violence. Based on perceptions of masculinity, the text critically questions how forms of sociability between youths affect their involvement in violent and/ or criminal practices. The study is the result of 30 focus groups with teenagers and youths of both sexes held in five Brazilian municipalities and part of the project “Youth and Violence Prevention”, conducted by the Brazilian Public Security Forum (FBSP) in partnership with Senasp/MJ.
